This is an old tip and probably well known by now, but I always found it useful and recently needed it after making an DNS update. In a terminal, run this:

dscacheutil -flushcache

When I used to do some server admin work, it always came in handy after setting top a new site or moving one out of the dev environment into production and updating the domain. A simple Google search for “OS X flush DNS cache” will bring back a few thousand results for this same command, so this is nothing new, just a quick tip.

So I’ve definitely put posting to this blog off for far too long. I think I even took this blog down and put it back up 10 times over the last few years. I recently a post on Smashing Magazine that finally convinced me it was time. Pointing back to a recent site that the web development community had created called Move the Web Forward - a site i had briefly looked at and mostly ignored, while still reading the blogs of those involved and learning from them. So I have finally decided to join that movement and try my hand at blogging. Not only for the goal of helping to move the community forward and giving back from all that I have learned so much from,. but to also get me out of my shell and be more social than I have been.

And here is the beginning of my blog, hopefully with a post a week, or at least one a month, on various subjects that I take interest in and my work as a developer.
